What began as a quest in 1992 to make a Mariner’s Compass quilt for her Navy submarine officer husband grew into Robin Long’s signature strip-pieced Mariner’s Compass system featuring rulers, books, and patterns that make this classic block accessible without paper piecing. Since launching Robin Ruth Design in 2015, she has become an internationally recognized teacher and a sought-after quilt designer for fabric companies.

Known for giving the Mariner’s Compass a modern, approachable twist, Robin encourages quilters to explore their own creative path through her popular hashtag #wherewillyourcompasstakeyou. When she isn’t traveling to teach, she works from her family’s ranch in Eastern Washington, developing new ways to bring this timeless block into the 21st century.
